Calhoun senior earns Island-wide scholar-artist honor

Calhoun High School senior Emily Keller is one of 20 students selected from more than 200 nominees from across Long Island to receive the 2011 Long Island Arts Alliance Scholar-Artist Award. Keller, a talented ballet dancer, has studied dance for more than 10 years and now takes private lessons five days a week. Since 2006, Keller has performed with the North Carolina Dance Theater and the New York State Summer School of the Arts, and she has been featured in major ballet roles in productions of “Don Quixote,” “The Nutcracker” and “Swan Lake.” Keller is also an All-County flutist who takes several Advanced Placement courses.
