Most country clubs boast about their golf course, tennis facilities and dining accommodations. The Lawrence Yacht & Country Club has all of that, plus a marina with 135 boat slips. But, what stands out are the strong bonds formed between club members and staff members. New members can walk in the door and immediately feel welcomed and embraced by long-time club members. Personal ties and connections are what set the Lawrence Yacht & Country Club apart from other clubs.

The Golf Club features an 18-hole course built on flat terrain with narrow, tree-lined fairways. Four of the holes are offset by picturesque waterfront views of Reynolds Channel and Bannister Creek. And, since the course is close to the Atlantic Ocean, frequent sea breezes keep it comfortable during the summer.

The new Golf Course Superintendent, Adam Thomas, has a master’s degree in Turf Grass Science from the University of Florida. Having served as assistant golf course superintendent at both Shinnecock Hills Golf Club and Pine Valley Country Club, he learned his trade at two of the top clubs in the world. Greens, fairways and tees have already improved since his arrival in October of 2011.

Lockers, showers, steam rooms, a heated year-round driving range, a newly renovated golf shop, and a snack bar are available to members. No sponsorship is necessary. Peter Procops, a PGA member for more than 25 years, is available for golf instruction. Weather permitting, golfing takes place from March through January.

Nine beautifully maintained outdoor Har-Tru tennis courts are open to members of the Men’s and Women’s Tennis Clubs. Tennis is directed by USTA professional, Mark Harrison, who has ranked No.1 on the East Coast for 55-and-over singles, who is also available for lessons. Leagues, tournaments and social gatherings are all part of the Tennis Club agenda. Tennis is available from May through October.
