Oceanside Fire Department Chief Kevin Klein tried to decide on the best way to fight a car fire on April 30 at the intersection of Waukena Avenue and 1st Street. The car’s occupants escaped without injury. The OFD was called in at about 12:30 and extinguished the blaze and cleaned up the scene by 2 p.m. The fire knocked out Cablevision and Verizon service in the area, which wasn’t restored until later that night.
