In an unusual scene, Reyna Castillo, 32, of Roosevelt, accidentally drove his 1992 Toyota Camry into four or five feet of water at the Milburn Boat Basin last Sunday. Castillo and his companion, a 31-year-old woman, were able to climb out of the car and waited on the roof while help was summoned to the scene.

The Baldwin Fire Department responded to the Milburn Basin with what a police spokesperson later called “approximately one dozen firefighters and four pieces of fire-fighting apparatus. ”

Explaining the incident, Castillo said he accelerated the vehicle into the water by accident. Both passengers were unharmed and even stayed dry during the incident, although Castillo was cited for a violation of the Nassau County Parks Ordinance. The vehicle was removed by the Nassau County Police Marine Bureau.
