Catholic school science fair was electric

A trip to the Long Beach Catholic Regional School last week would have afforded you lessons in a variety of scientific studies, from plate tectonics to electricity to chemical reactions.

The occasion was the school’s annual Science Fair on April 20, featuring 7th and 8th grade participants competing individually or in pairs. The 7th grade projects were based on life science or physical sciences, and included studies in plant and animal life and human experiences. The eighth-graders’ projects centered on physical science and Earth science.

Eight teachers and two health care professionals volunteered for the difficult ask of judging the various projects. The science fair —facilitated by science teacher Margaret Conde — was held during the day and the winners were announced that night. They are:

8th Grade Winners:

1st Place: Salvatore Isola of Atlantic Beach, 2nd Place: Caroline Goldberg of Point Lookout, 3nd Place: Daniel Pyle and Tyler Tamulinus of East Atlantic Beach

7th Grade Winners:

1st Place: Emily Sgourus of Atlantic Beach and Julia Petkevicius of Long Beach, 2nd Place: Danielle Cammarosano of Island Park and Isabella Sarnelli of Atlantic Beach, 3rd Place: Connor and Ryan Powers of Long Beach tied with Alexis Farina and Meaghan Geiger of Long Beach
