Celebrating Black History Month

Howard T. Herber Middle School in Malverne recently culminated its Black History Month Celebration with a special performance from cultural performers Earth Beat and Sanga of-the-Valley. This interactive arts-in-education program exposes students to the native rhythms of Africa, and takes them on a journey through African culture with the use of various cultural drums and instruments.
“It’s become a tradition at Herber that on the day before February break, we celebrate black history,” Middle School Assistant Principal Stephen Benfante said of the program, which combines story-telling with dance and music.
