Celebrating Dr. Seuss at the library

Posted

In honor of Dr. Seuss’s 110th birthday, families joined Bellmore Memorial Library officials for a special celebration of the famed children’s author.

Theodor Seuss Geisel, who was born March 2, 1904, published more than 40 children’s books, many of which are known around the world. On March 2 this year, Bellmore children read his works and took part in activities that incorporated his beloved characters.

The festivities began at 3 p.m. in the children’s room, where youngsters found children’s librarian Debbie DeGrassi donning a “Cat In The Hat” costume and the room transformed into Seuss-land, complete with Truffula Trees and street signs.

After listening to readings of Dr. Seuss classics, the children created various crafts projects, including paper versions of Thing One and Thing Two, characters from “The Cat In The Hat” and Seuss-themed designs. They also participated in physical activities, including a ball toss into the famous cat’s hat and “Hop on Pop” –– a jumping exercise that references the 1963 Seuss book. Seuss-themed cupcakes completed the party.
