Central, Parent Center to host recruiting forum

The Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District, in conjunction with the Bellmore-Merrick Community Parent Center and Nassau County Legislator David Denenberg, will hold a panel discussion on the college athletics selection process on Wednesday, March 5, from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at Mepham High School in North Bellmore.

College and high school coaches will provide facts for parents, students and coaches during the presentation, and will discuss how to improve student-athletes’ chances of being noticed by college recruiters. Topics will include: the recruiting process; the differences in college athletics divisions; NCAA recruiting regulations and the NCAA Clearinghouse; and scholarships and financial aid.

Moderated by Calhoun High School Assistant Principal Nicole Hollings, the panel will include: Athletic Director Susan Cassidy, softball coach, Division II, Molloy College; Anthony Cracco, Mepham High School athletic coordinator; Danny Longo, men’s and women’s soccer coach, Division II, Molloy College; Craig Papach, Kennedy High School athletic coordinator; Chris Re, assistant football coach, Division III, Gettysburg College; John Russo, head men’s lacrosse coach, Division I, Hofstra University; Paul Schmitt, wrestling coach, NJCAA, Nassau Community College; June Spruyt, Calhoun High School athletic coordinator; and Seth Tierney, head men’s lacrosse coach, Division I, Hofstra University.
