Clear Stream steps up for health

Posted

Clear Stream Avenue School staff members had a surprise for students on March 22. To celebrate the end of Fitness and Nutrition Month, teachers and administrators from the District 30 elementary school performed a step routine that morning, much to the delight of children.

When the curtain opened, the students screamed loudly as a group of about 20 teachers began the step routine they had been practicing for three weeks. Principal John Singleton, who also participated in the highly-choreographed dance, said it was a lot of hard work but well worth it. "It did so much for our faculty," he said. "It made us so cohesive."

Teachers learned the routine from their colleague, Natalie Nelson, who also leads the Clear Stream Steppers, a student step dance group.

Following the teachers' performance, a group of fourth-grade students got on stage to demonstrate yoga poses that they learned.

As part of Fitness and Nutrition Month, students kept track of their eating habits and exercise routines. They learned the differences between junk food and healthy snacks, and collected canned fruits and vegetables to give to a local food pantry. First-graders learned a nutrition song.
