Congratulates Herald on award

To the Editor:

Congratulations to the Valley Stream Herald, and in particular to Andrew Hackmack and Michelle Gil, for the award from the New York Press Association for your coverage of the erroneous flood maps put out by the Federal Emergency Management Agency, which hurt so many residents in Gibson. You have been with us from the beginning, May of 2010, when we were only six people meeting in the LIRR parking lot. You knew then this would be big news and have continued to help us by keeping this story alive. The award is well deserved. 

As you know, this situation with the flood maps is not over, and we will continue to keep the Herald informed. We are all thankful to have such responsible reporting on our hometown. Keep up the good work!
