Crash leaves one dead in Wantagh

A North Wantagh man was killed in a wrong-way, two-car crash on Sunday morning, police said. The Homicide Squad of the Nassau County Police Department responded to the scene of the crash on at Jerusalem Avenue, west of Campbell Road, where Preston Stockman, 60, was found in critical condition.

According to detectives, Stockman was traveling east on Jerusalem Avenue when his 1996 Toyota Camry veered into the westbound lane and struck a Buick at 8:50 a.m.

Stockman was transported to Nassau County Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 9:36 a.m. The driver of the Buick, a 57-year-old woman from Levittown, was also taken to NUMC, where she was treated for minor injuries.

Stockman was a certified public accountant and tax preparer who ran a home-based business. He leaves behind a wife, Madeline, a son, Jon, and a daughter, Lisa. A memorial service was scheduled for Wednesday.

Both vehicles were impounded for brake and safety inspections. The road remained closed in both directions for several hours.
