Delivery truck crashes into Bellmore Post Office

Posted

A Newsday delivery-truck driver lost control of his vehicle early on Tuesday morning, around 1:25 a.m., sending the truck hurtling into the Bellmore Post Office on Merrick Road. The driver, who leapt or fell from the vehicle when he tried to catch a pile of falling newspapers, was reportedly injured and rushed to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow for treatment. He was expected to recover.

Bellmore volunteer firefighters were called in to shore up the post office, which sustained damage to its southwest corner, where the front lobby is located. Post office officials set up a mobile postal unit in the parking lot on the west side of building on Tuesday. Merrick Road remains open, though traffic is slow-going in the area around the Bellmore Post Office.
