In celebration of Youth Art Month, the New York State Art Teachers Association in partnership with New York State United Teachers presented their 32nd Annual Legislative Student Art Exhibit virtually. The NYSATA Legislative Art Exhibit is the flagship event for Youth Art Month and the largest public display of student artwork in a government building.
“It is a well-known fact that children inherently communicate through their art” art teacher Janis Boremski explained. “The artwork chosen for the exhibit exemplifies how our students are using the visual arts as a form of personal expression and are engaged and motivated to create…Our Valley Stream 13 students are encouraged to express themselves in more ways as they explore different media, techniques, and artists from across cultures.”

Superintendent of District 13 Dr. Judith LaRocca noted the importance of art in a student’s education, “Research shows that art can help develop skills such as creative and emotive thinking, problem-solving, collaboration, and persistence,” she said.

“As students journey through their elementary school years and beyond, art supports the development of their cognitive and multisensory skills.”

For the NYSATA art exhibition, artwork selections were displayed from two students from each of the district’s four schools.

Art teachers in each of the schools also created displays of their students’ artwork in celebration of Youth Art Month.
