District 24 celebrates Valentine’s Day for Veterans

Posted

Valley Stream district 24, as part of their annual tradition, created over 400 Valentine’s cards for veterans living in hospitals and nursing homes. The intent of this program was to extend the thanks and remembrance given to veterans beyond national holidays like Veteran’s Day.

The elementary school students decorated the cards with colorful hearts and wrote messages of wellness and gratitude. These hundreds of heartfelt and uniquely designed cards will be distributed to veterans as part of the Valentines for Veterans program sponsored this year by Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman and Assemblywoman Judy Griffin.

“Students enjoyed decorating Valentine’s Day cards that expressed their gratitude for our brave veterans,” said district superintendent Dr. Don Sturz. “Our district takes pride in efforts to emphasize the importance of community engagement for our students, and Valentines for Veterans is a great opportunity to connect our students to the community.”
