District 30 hires new head of business

The District 30 administration announced on May 23 that Christopher Dillon, of the Plainedge School District, would replace Lisa Rutkoske as assistant superintendent for business at the end of the school year.

“I am pleased to welcome Dr. Dillon to District 30,” said Superintendent Nicholas Stirling. “I am confident his strong background and skill set will be an asset to our District.”

Dillon has served as assistant to the superintendent for administration and special projects in Plainedge since 2011. His responsibilities included supervising several departments, including the business office, transportation, security and buildings and grounds, and developing and maintaining department budgets. He has managed more than $10 million in capital projects, developed a district-wide security plan and streamlined maintenance repair scheduling.

Prior to his time in Plainedge, Dr. Dillion was the New York regional branch operations manager at Mac-Gray Intelligent Laundry Systems in Carlstadt, New Jersey. He has also held positions at Kohler Co., Pepsi Cola and St. John’s University.

Rutkoske will officially leave her position on July 1 to be the assistant superintendent for business in the Herricks School District. She began working in Valley Stream in November 2010.

“I’m not the most eloquent of speakers,” Rutkoske said. “[But] I really hope that my actions have spoken louder than my words over the last six years.” She said she felt supported by the parents and community in Valley Stream, and that her decision to leave wasn’t an easy one.
