The East Meadow School District celebrated Board of Education Recognition Week at its monthly board meeting on Oct. 16. Superintendent Dr. Kenneth Card Jr. lauded the seven-member board for all of their hard work and dedication in serving the students, staff and district community. Each board member received a special plaque as a thank you for their service.

“This is that time of year where we get to celebrate our Board of Education,” Dr. Card said. “Once a year, even though we should do this each and every day, we have an opportunity to thank them for their service to our community. These men and women sitting in front of you devote countless hours to make sure our schools are helping every child learn at the highest level.”

As a tradition in the East Meadow School District, the two newest board members, trustees Allyson Benowitz and Dr. Jodi Luce, were presented with their official board of education portraits.

Paola Duque, a student at W.T. Clarke High School, is a student in Jane Pawlowski’s Studio in Art 3 class and created Benowitz’s portrait. Sarah Said, a student at East Meadow High School, Ingo Pranggenberg’s Studio in Art 2 class, created Dr. Luce’s portrait.

After the board meeting, both portraits were hung outside the boardroom at the Salisbury Center.
