Downing gets a visit from 'Amelia Bedelia' author

Herman Parish, author of the literal-minded “Amelia Bedelia” books, recently visited the kindergarten, first- and second-grade students at the Maurice W. Downing Primary School in Malverne.
Parish discussed how he gets his ideas and how those ideas are developed into a story. He also gave an enthusiastic reading from one of his books, “Good Driving, Amelia Bedelia.”
The “Amelia Bedelia” series was originally started by Parish’s aunt, Peggy Parish, whose favorite motto was “Read what you like to read and keep reading.” Parish shared the motto with students, along with information on some upcoming books, and reminded them of the importance of reading.
