E. Meadow woman charged with DWI after wrong-way crash

An East Meadow woman was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after driving on the wrong lanes on the Wantagh and Northern State Parkways on Feb. 6, police said. 

Callers tipped off state police in Farmingdale after Christine A. Shefts, 51, was spotted driving northbound on the southbound lanes of the Wantagh Parkway at 4:06 a.m. on Monday, according to reports. Once police drove to the scene, callers then said Shefts was spotted driving eastbound on the westbound lanes of the Northern State Parkway. Police traveling westbound on the Northern State saw Shefts driving toward them and attempted to block her car, but Shefts drove past the officers and struck a car head on. 

Shefts was then taken to Nassau University Medical Center for minor injuries, and the driver of the second car was treated for a minor hand injury, reports said.
