East Meadow schools closed on Friday

The East Meadow School District  decided to close school Friday due to the winter storm that hit the area hard during the overnight hours.

The district posted an official statement on its Web site at about 5:28 a.m. on Friday:

"Due to inclement weather, the East Meadow School District will be closed today, Friday, February 26th. All after school and evening activities scheduled to take place in our buildings on Friday, February 26th are canceled as well. Be safe and have a nice day."

Heavy rains and a wintry mix hit East Meadow on Thursday, but snow accumulated overnight, creating messy conditions on the roads.

The district also canceled its Board of Education work session that was scheduled for Thursday night, including the student award presentation that was to precede it. The next meeting is a public budget forum, on March 4 at 8 p.m. The awards presentation will be held at a later date.
