What was described as an “heated argument” by Nassau County police escalated to a physical altercation that ended with Anthony Moscati, 35, of Alice Court, East Rockaway, being arrested for attempted murder on Dec. 17 at 12:30 a.m. in Hewlett.

Moscati and a woman, 39, were arguing fiercely, when he held a switchblade to her neck, according to police. He then pushed the woman into a wall, which resulted in a head injury, police said.

In defending herself, the woman raised her arms and was allegedly cut several times on her fingers, according to police, who, after responding to the scene, arrested Moscati without further incident. The woman was taken by a police ambulance for treatment. Moscati was also taken by a police ambulance to a local hospital for a psychological evaluation, officials said.

Moscati was charged with second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He was arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Dec. 17.
