Elephants on parade

Long Island Children's Museum celebrates the arrival of the Ringling Bros. Circus

The circus is coming and the streets will be rumbling! The arrival of the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus at Nassau Coliseum is celebrated with a parade of sorts, as the elephants march from their circus train past the front doors of Long Island Children’s Museum, on Monday, March 15. LICM, along with co-sponsor Herald Community Newspapers, welcomes the circus with a special night at the museum. The museum opens its doors at 6 p.m. for three hours of circus fun as everyone awaits the arrival of the elephants. Families are encouraged to dress up as a favorite circus performer and come on down to the museum to enjoy circus-themed activities. Ringling Bros. clowns will be on hand to get the night started in true circus style. All sorts of activities follow: make an edible circus animal train, a Ring of Fire circus trick and an animal bracelet featuring elephants, giraffes and lions. Then display some creativity by decorating a circus derby and a PT Barnum flag in honor of the circus showman’s 200th birthday. Proudly wear the derby and wave the flag when everyone moves outside to await the arrival of those special guests. KJOY Morning Show hosts Steve Harper and Maria Garcia will be leading the parade on their march to the circus’ temporary home at the Nassau Coliseum. Tickets are $8 ($6 members). Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased by calling (516) 224-5802. Long Island Children’s Museum, Museum Row, Garden City.
