Expert on Autism, Asperger Syndrome to speak at East Meadow H.S.

Dr. Stephen Shore is guest speaker at SEPTA, SERCL event

This Wednesday, April 6 in the East Meadow High School auditorium, the guest speaker will be Stephen Shore, Ed.D, a professor at Adelphi University and author of several published works on Autism and Asberger Syndrome. Shore, an inspirational and informative speaker, is diagnosed with Asberger Syndrome.

Shore will speak at two sessions on Wednesday, April 6, at 3:45 p.m. and at 7 p.m. in the EMHS auditorium. Reservations are required and can be made by sending an email to speced@eastmeadow.k12.ny.us with your name, the event (Stephen Shore), Session (3:45 p.m. or 7 p.m.) and the number of people attending. The event is sponsored by SEPTA and SERCL. 

According to the biography on his website, Shore was diagnosed by doctors as "atypical development with strong autistic tendencies." Shore was viewed as "too sick" to be treated on an outpatient basis and recommended for institutionalization. Nonverbal until four, and with much help from his parents, teachers, and others,
Shore completed his doctoral dissertation at Boston University, which analyzed the matching of best practices to the needs of people on the autism spectrum.
