This week summer passed and leaves are starting to turn colors, and that means the City of Long Beach is busy preparing for its 13th annual Fall Festival, to be held on Oct. 10 and 11 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Kennedy Plaza on Park Avenue and National Boulevard.

The festival features entertainment, food, puppet shows, crafts, a carousel, hay wagon and fire engine rides and, the weekend’s centerpiece, the pumpkin patch. Adults can purchase fall-themed foods or indulge in seasonal treats, while listening to live music featuring Sweet Adeline’s-Greater Nassau Chorus, the Michael Kohn Dixieland Band, the Long Island Banjo Society and Linda Ipanema and the Dixie Cats. Several vendors from the will offer fresh produce, breads and pies.

At 12 p.m on Oct. 10, children in costumes will parade from the Recreation Center to Kennedy Plaza, and awards for best costumes will be given and each child will receive special treats.

The next day, festival-goers are welcome to take part in the fall festival bake off by submitting their best desserts before 12 p.m in the lobby of City Hall. Judges will award prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners. For info, go to www.longbeachny.org or call 705-7217.
