Summer donating to help feed Long Islanders

Posted

Beginning on June 30 and continuing through Sept. 22, collection drives will be set up at a half dozen supermarkets on Long Island for PSEG Long Island’s third annual Power to Feed Long Island summer-long food drive initiative.

Community members can donate nonperishable foods; household essentials, personal care items and baby care items. The goal of the initiative is to collect the equivalent of 50,000 nutritious meals for Long Island residents facing a lack of food.

During the summer months, there is a significant reduction in food donations and students are out of school, leaving them without access to free or reduced cost food plans. The lack of access to foods leaves families “struggling to make ends meet.”

With the support of PSEG Long Island and Stop & Shop, Randi Dresner, president and CEO of Island Harvest Food Bank, said that this food collection initiative “will help ease that burden.”

Collection bins and drive-thru and drop-off options can be found at PsegLiNny.com/feedli. Access the site to also donate money. A dollar donated can amount to two meals for a family in need.
