Voters in the North Bellmore School District will have the chance to re-elect one member of the current Board of Education next week.

John Ferrara, who was elected to the board in 2011, is running unopposed this year. He said he decided to seek re-election because he would like to continue to collaborate with his fellow board members and district administrators to make a difference in the community.

Ferrara, 46, has lived in North Bellmore with his wife, Basi, and their family for 15 years. Their three children are all enrolled in area schools: John Anthony, 17, is a Mepham High School student; Bianca, 13, attends Grand Avenue Middle School; and Alexa, 12, is a student at Saw Mill Road Elementary School.

An electrician, Ferrara has been a member of the North Bellmore Facilities Committee, volunteered through the Saw Mill Road PTA, and coached for the North Bellmore-North Merrick Little League and Bellmore Braves football organization.

This academic year, Ferrara served as the board’s vice president. If he is re-elected, he said he would work to support what’s in the best interest of both the children in the school district and North Bellmore residents.

“My goal is to keep our taxes low and our educational standards high,” he said. “If we are able to maintain this balance, our community will continue to be a great place to live.”
