Fire torches Valley Stream garage

A garage on Cornwell Avenue was destroyed in a house fire on Sunday at about 5 p.m., according to Valley Stream fire officials, but no injuries were reported.

Firefighters received the call at 5:02 p.m. Firefighters from the Hewlett, Malverne, Elmont and Lynbrook fire departments provided backup. Together, they were able to put out the fire within 40 minutes.

Valley Stream Fire Chief James Ervolino said most of the damage was done to the detached garage.


The Nassau County Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
