Long Beach firefighters and police officers rushed to the scene of an accident on Thursday at the intersection of Park Avenue and Lincoln Boulevard.

Long Beach Fire Chief Rich Corbett said that two cars were involved in a collision at around 1:30 p.m., when the driver of a silver Honda Civic heading east was struck by another vehicle that was traveling north.

That sent the Civic careering out of control and over the center median on Park Avenue, striking a westbound tractor-trailer.

The Civic became wedged underneath the truck, and firefighters used the Jaws of Life to extricate the driver of the vehicle.

“The one driver that was in the car had to be extricated, we had to cut the door off of the car,” Corbett said.

Corbett said that the driver was taken to South Nassau Communities Hospital. Firefighters and emergency crews also removed a passenger from the Civic, who was transported to Long Beach Medical Center. Corbett said that no serious or life-threatening injuries were reported.

The driver of the other vehicle was treated at the scene and released. Corbett said that the truck driver was not injured. The accident is under investigation.
