The first annual Family Community Day kicked off on Sept. 8 at the Family Life Worship Center in Elmont. The event was sponsored by New York State Senator Jack Martins and Bishop Christopher Cox II. Community members from Franklin Square, Elmont and South Floral Park turned out to take part in the event which rang in the new school year.

The Family Community Day featured a school supply give-away sponsored by Health Plus, Senator Martins, Bishop Cox and DJ Monumental. In addition, Martins also co-sponsored free dental screenings with Healthplex as a special “Back to School Smile” program for youngsters.

School supplies and dental screenings were given to residents on a first come, first served basis. “Back to School Smile is a wonderful opportunity for our young people to get free quality dental screenings,” Martins said. “I can’t thank Health Plus and Healthplex enough.”

“Helping our young people become a success in school and motivating them to strive for their dreams is very important in today’s world,” Bishop Cox said. “I’m glad I was able to be of a little help to the effort.”
