Flag football game honors fallen firefighter

Posted

On Saturday, the Valley Stream Volunteer Fire Department kept alive the annual tradition of playing the Hewlett Fire Department in a flag football game in honor of the late Phillip J. Clemens II. Clemens was the lieutenant of Valley Stream’s Engine 3 when he was tragically killed in 2010 in a motorcycle accident on the Cross Island Parkway in Queens.

The annual game has been a Super Bowl weekend tradition between the departments since 2011. Although this year the Valley Stream FD lost the match, a good time was had all around in a game of friendly competition. The departments continue to keep Clemens memory alive by remembering a great friend, firefighter, and father.
