Franklin Square boys take state title

The 13 and 14-year-old Junior boys Franklin Square Little League won the New York State Little League Baseball Championship. The team went undefeated in the District 29, Section 5 and New York State Championships.

This is the third district title for the team who has played together since the 2009 season. The boys were the first Franklin Square Little League team to earn a Sectional and State Championship. The team is now focused on the Eastern Regional title where they will face teams from Maine, Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

The boys are coached by Jimmy O’Connell, Russ Weissheier and Rich Cinnamo. The team consists of Anthony Catapano, John Cimilluca, Michael Catanese, Robert Kelly, Mikey Castel, Robert Weissheier, Matt Cosme, Joe Filardo, James O’Connell, Anthony Lucito, Kurt Rissland, Julio Lizardo and Matt Cinnamo.
