The funeral services for slain New York City police officer Brian Moore will be held at St. James Roman Catholic Church in Seaford on Friday, May 8 at 11 a.m.

Tens of thousands of mourners, including at least 1,000 police officers from Nassau County, are expected to attend. Moore, a North Massapequa resident and Plainedge High School graduate, was shot in the head in the line of duty in Queens on May 2, and died two days later. He was 25.

“The entire Nassau PBA is in mourning for this brave, young officer who gave his life protecting the citizens of New York City,” PBA President James Carver said. “We will all be on hand, along with officers from around the country, to honor our brother, whose life was cut so tragically short. Our hearts go out to Officer Moore’s family. He hails from a long line of police officers. His father and uncle served in the NYPD, and many of his cousins are police officers on Long Island. This is a family that knows service.”

As a result of the funeral, there will be road closings and parking restrictions in northern Seaford on Friday. Stewart Avenue and Hicksville Road from Hempstead Turnpike to the Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway will be closed from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Additional road closures during that time include Union Avenue, and Seaman's Neck Road from Hicksville Road to Cordwood Lane.

Parking will be prohibited from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Stewart Avenue and Hicksville Road south of Hempstead Turnpike, on Union Avenue, and on Seaman's Neck Road north of the Southern State Parkway.

Motorists should expect delays in the area as well as other periodic closings of local roads.
