Garage ablaze on Ella Street

On March 23, a garage fire on Ella Street was put out by the Valley Stream Volunteer Fire Department before a leaking propane tank ignited. Nassau County Fire Communications – Firecom alerted fireighters of the blaze just before 11:30 p.m. as they rushed to the scene.

2nd Assistant Chief Anthony Capone was first on the scene and found a detached garage in flames. A Signal 10 (working fire) was broadcasted bringing in mutual aid from surrounding towns to help handle the situation. Engine 344 arrived on scene and put a hose line into operation to stop the spread to the nearby homes on Ella Street. A second hose line was put into operation to assist with a leaking propane tank involved in the fire.

Ladder 346 was the first due truck and performed overhaul, the process of double checking no smolders reignited or little fires to start up again. With the fire swiftly knocked down by VSFD, the mutual aid returned to their stations.

Rescue 347 was designated out to the scene FAST (Firefighter Assist & Search Team). The Office of the Fire Marshal - County of Nassau and Nassau County Fire Marshal Hazmat responded to the scene as well. All operations were under the command of Chief of Department O’Brien.
