The City of Glen Cove held its 35th annual commemorative program in honor of The Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on Monday. Every year, the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Commemorative Commission, in concert with the Glen Cove City School District, hosts the event at Finley Middle School to celebrate the life of Dr. King, and remember his incomparable legacy of activism during the Civil Rights Movement.
The theme of this year’s program was “Transforming Dr. King’s Dream Into Action,” which was reverberated by honors bestowed upon past commission volunteers, music from the Glen Cove High School Select Chorale and drumline, and a rousing visual performance by the ESOTA Dance Company, which moved the entire room.
Glen Cove Mayor Tim Tenke said, “The theme underscores the need to stand up for our beliefs, seek peaceful resolutions to conflict and do good by offering your time, resources and ideas to help those in need through service and action.”
