A Baldwin man was charged with grand larceny at a Blockbuster Video store in Long Beach, and is suspected in three burglaries at other stores.

Alejandro Hernandez, 24, was arrested and charged with fourth-degree grand larceny and fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, both felonies, after the video store at 220 E. Park Avenue was broken into on Jan. 2.

“This was of particular concern to the Long Beach Police Department because it was the fourth burglary reported in a string of Blockbuster Video burglaries in Nassau County,” said Detective Lieutenant James Canner, commanding officer of the detective division of the Long Beach Police Department. Police did not provide details about the stolen property.

LBPD spokesman Lt. Bruce Meyer said Hernandez was arrested only for a grand larceny in Long Beach, and that the Nassau County Police Department is investigating whether Hernandez was involved in burglaries at three other county Blockbuster stores.

Hernandez was arraigned in Long Beach City Court and released on $5,000 cash bail. He is due back in the city court on Jan. 11. A sign on the door at Blockbuster in Long Beach announced that the store’s last day of business was Jan. 10.
