Visitors to the Sandel Center on Aug. 28 were welcomed to a very special road trip that took them from Broadway to Tennessee, Louisiana, Las Vegas and Detroit .
The Showtime performance, "On the Road Again," featured dazzling song and dance. In the works for about two years, the many participating members of the center have a great passion for the performing arts and the story, script, lyrics, costumes, scenery and behind-the-scenes production of the show resulted from that passion.
The many hours spent preparing and rehearsing fostered new friendships and strengthened old friendships. A true camaraderie united the cast. Under the direction of Program Coordinator Kathe Hardenburgh, the performance was dedicated to Robin Kelly.
Those who missed the show will have other opportunities to catch it because the group has plans to literally take it on the road to area nursing homes and assisted living facilities.
A poem by Joan Kiernan welcomed the audience and captured the essence of
the day:
With stars in their eyes
And music in their souls
The Showtime performers
Keep rehearsing their roles.
Singers learning new songs
While the actors study lines
Dancers keep the rhythm
As this poet pens these rhymes.
They hope to entertain you
They love to see you smile
Kathe directs their talents
And gives it Broadway’s style.
So put your hands together
And applaud their special art
For although they may be Seniors
They’re really young at heart!
Enjoy the show!!
