High school musical: W.H. puts on a classic

Posted

West Hempstead High School’s rendition of Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” earlier this month was a hit in the hamlet.

A cast and crew of more than 100 students was directed by Joseph Kane, while choir director Patricia McVetty provided musical direction and teacher Melissa Benson provided choreography. The play, which took place on March 17, 18 and 19, was produced by teacher Wayne Heckler.

Among featured students were April Slamowitz, Amar Benkboukha, Noah Santoro, Emily Sarro, Ozzie Machado and Thomas Marion. Music teacher Daniel DiPasquale and his stage crew transformed the high school auditorium into a French provincial town, while a full-pit orchestra directed by music teacher Jon Trapani completed the musical journey.
