Hispanic Brotherhood of Rockville Centre celebrates a successful fundraiser

Posted

The Hispanic Brotherhood of Rockville Centre’s annual Scholarship Dinner went off without a hitch last week, as several hundred local residents turned out to celebrate Cinco De Mayo at the gala, which was held at Temple B’nai Sholom. Dr. Neil Kirschen, Patricia Kirschen, Dr. Lidia Epel. Larry Siegel, Rev. Msgr. Robert Brennan and Reinaldo Martinez were this year’s honorees.

“The dinner was a huge success – we were packed this year. It was wonderful, it really worked out,” said Margarita Grasing, the Hispanic Brotherhood’s executive director. “I was even having margaritas myself.”

Grasing said that although her staff has yet to calculate the proceeds from the event, she is sure the Hispanic Brotherhood took in around $45,000. She said the volunteers from the community were wonderful, working very hard to prepare, and that the temple also worked with her organization to help.

Of the money raised, Grasing said “With all the cuts, it really helps. We always say it — education is the tool. It’s a way out of poverty.”
