Holiday Outing

Turkeys, Pies and Other Good Things...
If you missed it last weekend, there’s still time to experience a traditional Thanksgiving as it was celebrated in the 19th century, during Old Bethpage Village Restoration’s annual Thanksgiving festivities. Old-fashioned wood burning stoves, beehive ovens and hearths will be fired up to prepare a variety of foods and baked goods, using historical recipes. A fat turkey is spitted and roasted, with a demonstration of food preservation methods, musical entertainment and children’s activities.
Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 26-27, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. $10, $7 children 4-14 and seniors. Old Bethpage Village Restoration, 1303 Round Swamp Road, Old Bethpage. (516) 572-8400.

Family Fun

A Band of Veggies
Kids have an opportunity to play with their food this weekend. It’s all in good fun as Long Island Children’s Museum presents a playful, healthy and educational experience inspired by the famous Vienna Vegetable Orchestra. Learn how to shape a variety of musical instruments using carrots, cucumbers, peppers, eggplants and beans as you play along in our own vegetable symphony.
Saturday, Nov. 26, 2:30-4:30 p.m. Free with museum admission. Long Island Children’s Museum, Museum Row, Garden City. (516) 224-5844 or www.licm.org.

Art Adventures

NCMA’s Family Day
Bring the family to Nassau County Museum of Art for a special day at the museum. Take the kids on a docent-led walk-through of the current exhibition, “Francisco Goya: Los Caprichos.” The exhibit, ending this weekend, showcases 80 etchings produced by Francisco Goya in 1799. Also, spend some time in NCMA’s sculpture park, which features over 50 works, many of the monumental in size. For more outdoor fun, weather permitting, explore the museum’s 145 acres that include many nature trails.
Sunday, Nov. 27, 1 p.m. Free with museum admission. $10, $8 seniors, $4 children 12 and older. Nassau County Museum of Art, One Museum Dr. (off Northern Blvd.), Roslyn Harbor. (516) 484-9337 or www.nassaumuseum.com.
