While RVC Gourmet Deli & Catering is brand new, the expertise behind it is far from it. Michael O’Reilly owned Seventh Street Gourmet in Garden City prior to deciding to open something special in his own hometown.

“I saw the need for a good old fashioned delicatessen on the north side of Rockville Centre,” he said. “I want to offer exceptional service and quality food at fair prices.” Since he lives in Rockville Centre, he knows the community well. And if he looks familiar, it might be because he coaches third and sixth grade lacrosse, locally.

The deli offers virtually anything one could possibly want for any meal of the day … from bacon and eggs to a hot dinner entrée with sides. There’s a steam table that changes its dinner options daily. Each day, five hot trays offer different entrees, such as cordon bleu, chicken kebabs, steak, many more. A small dinner includes one side dish, and a large gets two. Their salad station lets you choose from a wide array of ingredients for a customized chopped salad.

Breakfast choices are endless; choose from a yogurt & fruit parfait, a variety of omelets, pancakes or French toast with all the fixings, or a “Healthy Woman” — three egg whites with turkey in a whole wheat wrap. Sandwiches, wraps, quesadillas, and burgers range from classic favorites to ones that challenge the imagination. A fresh-pressed Panini could have honey turkey, cheddar, lettuce, tomato and sun dried tomato pesto mayo on a Sabata roll, or try one with breaded eggplant, grilled chicken, roasted red peppers and provolone on rosemary focaccia. Cold cuts and salads can be purchased by the pound.

Catering is another service — for a small gathering or a huge affair. O’Reilly has catered parties for as large as 600 people, and can provide servers, bartenders, tables, chairs and tents — whatever is needed. Barbecues can include the grills and grillers. Two days notice is usually enough for a catered event, and they will deliver everything.

O’Reilly has configured the web site to offer all the menus and record the customer’s data. While you cannot pay online, the site will take and hold credit card information, and you won’t be billed until you come in to pick up your order. Your online order is sent directly to the deli’s fax machine, so it can be ready for pickup within 15 minutes. If you’re at work and want to pick up dinner on your way home, simply specify a time online, and it will be ready for you then. And of course, ordering by phone is always an option.

RVC Gourmet Deli is open Monday through Friday 5 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday 5 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday 5 a.m. to 4 p.m. Local delivery is available. If you don’t see it, just ask.
