In Oceanside, Alleged DWI

Police, firefighters and EMTs responded to a one-car accident at the intersection of Virginia and Lawrence avenues in Oceanside on Saturday night. Three men, including the driver, were taken to area hospitals, one in serious condition, according to police. The driver of the car, Gabriel Ochakovsky, 20, of Oceanside, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated.

Police said Ochakovsky was driving a BMW east on Virginia Avenue when he struck a tree at the intersection of Lawrence Avenue just after 10:30 p.m., police said. He was transported to Nassau University Medical Center with a broken ankle.
The front passenger, Jonathan Steinberg, 24, also of Oceanside, suffered severe head trauma and was airlifted to the NUMC. As the Herald went to press on Monday, Shelley Lotenberg, a spokeswoman for the hospital, said that Steinberg was being treated in the Intensive Care Unit.

According to police, the rear passenger, Scott Lepkofker, 21, of Oceanside, was taken to South Nassau Communities Hospital and treated for injuries to his face.
At press time, police said that Ochakovsky's arraignment was pending.
