Island Park raises permit fees for electricians, plumbers

At its Nov. 18 meeting, the Island Park village board voted to increase the permit fees for plumbers and electricians in the village.

Currently, the fee for an electrician’s or plumber’s permit is $100, and $50 a year to renew it. The new fees, under Local Laws 4 and 5 of 2010, are $150 for first permits and $100 for renewal.

Mayor Jim Ruzicka estimated that the village receives about 20 applications a year each for plumbers and electricians, so, he acknowledged, the village will not be making a lot of money off the fee increase. “We’re always looking for some money, and we’re trying to keep in line with what everyone else is charging,” Ruzicka said. “And that just brings us up with other villages, like Malverne, and the Town of Hempstead.”
