‘It’s music for the eyes’

The West End has a lot of heart, evidence of which is on display at the large windows at Rose & Eye.

Students at West School created four different Valentine’s Day-themed vignettes for the women’s boutique on West Beech Street at and Wyoming Avenue.

Second graders created art with the word “Love” featured in each piece. Third graders created hearts that form a tapestry or quilt. Fourth graders created Keith Haring-inspired Pop Art and fifth graders got their inspiration form famous fictional couples, from Popeye and Olive Oyl to Homer and Marge Simpson.

Some 60 West School students were presented with trophies from Rose & Eye’s owners, Michael Muratore and Stefano Malluzzo, in recognition of their outstanding art work, at the boutique on Feb. 4.

"What better way to put a smile on your face then to view the artwork of children -- it’s music for the eyes,” said Donna Fee, West School’s teacher in charge, who along with art teacher Denise Collins and Principal Sandy Schneider, guided the students on their projects.

Rose & Eye and West School joined forces once before, in October 2008, when the students created art work for a Halloween-themed windows. “The kids loved the idea,” Collins recalled. “It’s nice for them to see their work on display.”
