Joint committee at work to address Littleworth Lane

A committee to address the issue at Littleworth Lane has been championed as part of a “coordinated effort” between the village and the school district. It has begun work to find a viable solution to the problem.
After public comment meetings of the Sea Cliff Village Board turned heated in late November, Mayor Edward Lieberman met with Superintendent Dr. Peter Giarrizzo multiple times to discuss the district’s point of view on how to address the issue.
The joint committee was formed last month, and since its formation has held two meetings. Giarrizzo is co-chairman of the committee with the village’s Traffic and Safety Committee Chairman Daniel Flanzig.
There are 16 members in total, including village Trustees Dina Epstein and Deborah McDermott, as well as Village Administrator Bruce Kennedy. Sea Cliff School Principal Chris Zublionis, Megan McCormick, a teacher, Board of Education Trustee Sara Jones, John Hall (facilities) and Michelle Hall (transportation), school district directors and Puja Vera, a member of the school district’s safety team, round out the district’s presence.
According to Epstein, the taskforce will meet every two weeks through March to work on providing recommendations to “quell concerns” over Littleworth Lane. McDermott said Giarrizzo divided the taskforce into three groups — short-term solutions and signage, long-term solutions, and traffic education and communication.

“These subcommittees will provide recommendations about what to do next, gather information to think through this, and figure out what our options are,” McDermott said.
“Each group has identified questions they are going to seek answers to and report back in future meetings,” Giarrizzo said.
Giarrizzo added that since the group is still brainstorming and exploring different paths to pursue, it would not share any forthcoming solutions until a solid recommendation is formulated. That recommendation, he said, would then be presented to the village board at a public comment meeting.
