Kiwanis hosts its own Olympics

Posted

The Kiwanis Club of Merrick hosted its annual “Merr-Olympics” competition on Sunday, June 12, at Chatterton Elementary School. Dr. Richard Seibert and James Carroll chaired the event for the Kiwanis Club.

Merrick and North Merrick children spent the day competing in the standing long jump, vertical leap, 50-meter dash, medicine ball throw, and the sit and reach. Gold, silver and bronze medals were awarded to the youngsters based on their scores in the various events. The top finishers in the competition received trophies.

The purpose of the Merr-Olympics is to raise awareness about children’s strengths. The event is held annually to promote healthy living, including a commitment to exercise.
