Lakeside students prepare food for the hungry

Posted

In just one day, sixth-graders at Levy-Lakeside Elementary School in Merrick assembled more than a thousand sandwiches and bagged 350 cookies for people in need of meals. Students’ parents, Spiga Bakery and Hey Cookie! donated the ingredients.

Levy-Lakeside teacher Sue Molloy organized the annual sandwich-making-athon, which took place on Jan. 30.

“Giving back is an important part of our children’s education,” Molloy said in an email. Many students commented that it felt good to help others, displaying a “radiant glow,” Molloy wrote.

“They were so proud of themselves and so were we,” said Levy-Lakeside Principal Libby Trencheny.
