Lawrence Assoc. launches crime prevention committee

Lawrence Association president Rochelle Stern Kevelson recently announced the reorganization of its crime prevention program, which will be known as “The Lawrence Association Committee on Crime Prevention and Public Safety.”

The committee will be chaired by former Lawrence mayor Dr. Jack Levenbrown, a past president of the Lawrence Association, and the founder and long time former chairman of the civic group's Neighborhood Watch Program.

Dr. Levenbrown and committee members Audrey Landau and Joan Lepelstat met with Inspector John R. Capece, commanding officer of the Nassau County Police Department's Fourth Precinct, on Dec. 22. Levenbrown said that while crime is at historic lows in the Lawrence area, "it is important that everyone does his or her part by doing certain simple things to avoid being a victim."

The Lawrence Association will now print timely crime prevention tips in its monthly bulletin. The new committee will also keep a close eye on various categories of crime and publicize preventive measures if any trends are noted.
