Lawrence native Michael Cohen likely to be released in May

Multiple media outlets have reported that Michael Cohen, the Lawrence native and former personal lawyer for President Donald Trump, is likely to be released from prison sometime this month, and then confined to home for the remainder of his three-year sentence.

Cohen was initially denied an early prison release because of the coronavirus pandemic in March. He was then scheduled to be released on May 9, but that was rescinded by the federal Bureau of Prisons because he had yet to serve at least 50 percent of his prison term. His official release date is Nov. 22, 2021.

Cohen, 53, is in upstate Otisville for lying to Congress and other felony charges related to breaking campaign finance laws and tax evasion. He was convicted in 2018. Cohen remains in quarantine in the medium security prison.

It was also reported by several media outlets, that the Bureau of Prisons denial came one day after Trump Organization attorney Charles Harder warned Cohen in a letter to not publish his planned  “tell-all” book.
