Every player deserves kudos

To the Editor:

I’m very proud to be one of the many admirers of the Rockville Centre softball team. All the team’s fans collectively cheered when they beat Long Beach earlier this summer and took home the championship trophy for District 30.

The team’s fantastic season can be summed up by its phenomenal performances on the field. Every single player, coach and parent of this team deserves kudos.

The girls should know that their participation on the team will prepare them well for the future. The spirit of cooperation and teamwork forged through competitive sports will guide them well in future endeavors.

Every player has something to be proud of this past season — the farthest hit, the lowest ERA, the highest number of RBIs. But what everyone can share is the success they achieve as a team and for our community. Congratulations!

Do something about bike thefts

To the Editor:

My locked bike was recently stolen in the middle of the afternoon from the bicycle rack on Front Street under the Long Island Rail Road tracks. In the way you notice things when they happen to you, I’ve been astonished at how many bike thefts are recorded in the Herald every week and especially how many occur in that same location — the Front Street bike racks by the train.

Surely that location — two blocks from the police station — can be put under greater surveillance. Perhaps a security camera could be set up. It’s obviously the result of an organized theft ring using vans, etc. and it affects the quality of life in our village.
