Vote ‘yes’ on Tuesday!

The following is an open letter to residents of Rockville Centre:

This Tuesday, May 15, is voting day for our school budget. The members of each of our school’s PTAs have voted overwhelmingly to support the 2012-13 budget, and we urge you to get out and vote. Members of our Board of Education and all employees of the Rockville Centre school district have worked diligently this year to keep costs down. We are very thankful to the employees of our school district for giving back so that our district was able to save more than $1.4 million. While taking into consideration the fiscal concerns of the residents, the members of the board and district employees have sought to maintain the excellent educational programs provided to the children. The passage of this budget will ensure that all academic, music, art and sports programs provided by our schools will remain intact.

However, for this budget to pass, we need everyone to go out and vote! Polling takes place at South Side High School from 7 a.m. until 9 p.m. Please take a moment out of your day to get there to vote yes and support the 2012- 13 budget. The teachers and staff did their part; now it is time for you to do yours!

By joining us in voting “yes” on Tuesday, you will support your local schools and the children of the Rockville Centre school district.

Assembly needs to ban synthetic pot, sweetened drinks

To the Editor:

While your editorial “New, disturbing ways for teens to get wasted” (May 3-9) was correct to express concern about young people finding new substances, such as synthetic marijuana, to abuse, the paper missed a crucial fact about state legislation to impose criminal penalties on the possession and sale of so-called fake pot — the legislation was already approved by the State Senate days before your editorial went to print.
