Levy-Lakeside dances for two causes

Posted

Levy-Lakeside Elementary School in Merrick hosted its annual dance-a-thon last Friday inside in the gymnasium.

The event, open to fourth- through sixth-graders, raised $6,101 through donations. About 230 children attended the festivities, and 40 parents volunteered to help out, according to Soo Becchina, a special education teacher and the Student Council adviser at Levy-Lakeside.

Each year, the students vote for two charities that they would like to donate the money to, and this year they decided on the Robbie Levine Foundation and 1 in 9: The Long Island Breast Cancer Action Coalition.

The kids had a blast, said Becchina, and danced along to the music provided by the Evolution DJ Company.
